Twig Capra
This is one of my most favourable images from Twig Capra. i like this image because of the vivid colour of blue she has used and because of the unordinary and extravagant makeup used on the model. The light blue colour connotes a lighthearted fun mood, along with the large playful accessories used in her hair and on her finger. the use of the wig and matching makeup colours for me suggests the easy/lively times of the earlier years and how it was much more enjoyed for its outgoing simplicity. This image shows a women in a earlier time very happy and excited. The photograph is composed in a way of which i can adapt to my shoots, i will be using a black background as well, as this brings out the face and colours. |
This is another image of Twig Capra's that i like, i like this one because it has a more sinister and intense approach. In this the model appears be lit on fire on her shoulder and on her left eyebrow. The use of orange, red and yellow makeup around her eyes and eyebrows represent danger and fear. The catchlights in here eyes almost suggest her being afraid of something, she looks innocent. Furthermore i particularly like the fact her face is has been made pale, it has created a washed out look adding tho the identity that has been created in the image. This photograph links to my idea as i will focus around the eyes as well as lips. The makeup has been used in vivid colours which i want to create. |
ANON - 'Fashion Makeup Photography'
This is my favourite image from the fashion collection. I like this photo because of the sharp makeup and the colours. The sharpness and bright orange adds a edgy feel/vibe to the photograph yet still allowing the model to look beautiful but dangerous. This photograph has captured mainly one side of her face, i like this because there is a contrast in colours which has been created with one side to the other of the face, due to the shadows created by the lighting. The image has been taken in a studio, so using artificial lighting, it has also been taken on a black background which i believe encourages the models face structure by defining it and lets the makeup to stand out the right amount and appeal to the viewer. This photograph is a close up which inspires me with my choice of positioning for this portrait unit. Also i will be using artificial lighting and shooting in the green room, therefore this photograph really helps me with the composition and makeup for my photoshoot. |
This is the second image i really like. This is an extreme close up of the model, the photograph has been taken with artificial lighting as well as the one above but it has been taken on a white background. I like this photograph because the style of makeup used is very different and abstract. As we can tell it is not a traditional way of wearing makeup. The lips are the main focus in this and the eyes have been left plane, but this is allowing the lips to attract a lot of attention. although the eyes are makeup-less the grey/blue colour of the models eyes stand out and have also got catchlights, this implies a more sincere mood to the photograph. I believe that this photo has been edited and airbrushed using photoshop/editing software. I can tell because her eyes have been enhanced with colour and brightness, not only this but her face has a lot of definition on the cheek bones, the makeup also helped define her cheekbones. This is a really good inspiration for me as i like the idea of the fact the lips only stand out, furthermore i like the way the photo has been composed very close up, therefore catching all details and engaging the viewers. |
Idea Pages
Brainstorm:
Ideas:
These are my ideas for my final pieces. To start i began with the idea of dripping paint on peoples faces and hair, and possibly their body. However this idea wasn't pursued because i thought of various bright makeup ideas i could do on females which i thought would be more original and exciting to the out, which would clearly go with my theme of colour. In the end after doing a few photoshoots i ended up sticking to a makeup/colour theme but developed this idea by having only vivid lipstick colours and long eyelashes - mascara and subtle eyeshadow matching the lipstick colour. These photoshoots will be taken in different environments for each model. Photoshop will be used to enhance colours and make the images to a final piece standard e.g contrast, airbrushing, blurring. |

Miscellaneous - makeup
|
I have gathered some images of the internet which i like and that inspire me with the makeup style i will use on my models. For the most of these i have chosen them because of the bold lipstick colours s well as the eye makeup and the composition of the photographs. This will help me compose photo's and position my model in way that will help compliment the makeup d faces of each individual model. |

Lighting Techniques
BUTTERFLY LIGHTING
A flattering 'glamour' lighting style, that sculptures the face and makes the subject look powerful. |
REMBRANT LIGHTING
Flaterring style, dramatic and mysticl. Most of the face is covered with shadow, mking the face appear narrower. |
SPLIT LIGHTING
Extremely dramatic and some times sinister style of lighting which has half of the face in show and the other half lit.The light source is coming directly from either the left or right. The camera is eye level with the mmodel. |
RIVERCOP LIGHTING
Suspicious, scary, psychotic mood. Two equally bright lights on either side, slightly behind the model. Shadows measured by how far back the lights are, the further back the greater the shadow is. |
SPRAY LIGHTING
'Makes a dull wall look good' Spray light behind the model, angled up towards the wall/background. One directly in front. The closer the light is the the background the smaller the circle becomes. |
CLAMSHELL LIGHTING
Most flattering & glamorous with two lights. Use two large soft lights as near to the model as possible. |
Experiment/Test Shoot
This is a test photoshoot where i experimented with make up. I have tried to create a bold colour theme in this shoot because my theme is colour. This photoshoot isn't very successful as i didn't use any lighting techniques, which made my photo's look flat. Also i need to apply the eye shadow in a more creative way to draw more attention to the eyes. I have learnt from this so i can use different lighting to compliment the face - defining it and helping bring out the colour in make up.
Photoshoot 1
Location: Green room
This shoot was taken after my teestshoot, the test shoot alone focused on makeup and colour. For this photoshoot i aimed to create unordinary makeup and a vibrant colour, although the makeup isn't as bright naturally i will use photoshop to enhance the colours. I have given the model a black background, also i have dressed her in black so that the main focus of the photographs will be the colours of the makeup.

This is one of my favourite photos from my shoot. In this shoot i have used green as the main colour but i have used silver along side o compliment it. i particularly like this one because of the rembrant lighting. The lighting allows the silver lipstick to stand out as well as her face shape. To make the picture more appealing i have have used the rule of three, this allows the image to be less ordinary. This photo is soft , having a light-hearting atmosphere. To improve this i would need to either use a more pigmented make up colour or i can use photoshop to enhance the colours. |
This is another one of my photograph's which i best like. This is because of the intensity in the models eyes. In this image i have used rembrant lighting but the models head is tilted to the right therefore not fully forming rembrant lighting. Never the less i appreciate the colour of eye make up in this particular image as it is exposed more to the camera. To allow more focus on the models face and colours she is wearing all black which would not be distracting to the viewers. This image makes me feel engaged with it and with the model, i believe the what grabs your attention is the eyes. |
Photoshoot 2
Location: Green room
This Shoot was done in the green room using artificial lighting. The main colour for this is red and the make up was done using masking tape stencil. For this i have aimed to achieve an abstract style of makeup. I used this model because she has green/orange eye colour which will work well with the different makeup colours.

For this i have aimed to achieve an abstract style of makeup. I used this model because she has green/orange eye colour which will work well with the different makeup colours.
This is simply to show the process of the makeup for this photoshoot. In order to create the sharp triangles underneath her eyes it was necessary that we use masking tape so that nothing went wrong. These were placed as accurate as possible on either side and carried out using a bright red lip liner and then filled in with the pencil. Secondly we used white eyeshadow on certain areas of the face to highlight and illuminate - The camera would capture this e.g. beneath eyebrows.
This is my favourite photo from my photoshoot. In this shoot i have used vibrant red makeup, i have kept it simple and bold to fully emphasise colour. For each shoot i do i will create a different/abstract shape of makeup I particularly like this photograph because of the catch light that is created through using split lighting, this gave the mood of loss through the emotion/expression on her face. The split lighting not only brings out the colour of her eyes, but creating a more vivid red on her lips/ This look and lighting both come together to produce a sinister look. The black backdrop also lets the face take more focus in the photo and it helps bring out the colour in the makeup. |
This is my second photo which i like the best, i have made her face paler than usual for a ghostly yet despite the make up, natural look. i used river cop lighting in this image to create a more narrow face shape and highlight jaw/upper bone structure of her face. Further definition would be attempted to be applied through photoshop. As well as that i would enhance her eye colour. Furthermore i like that there is catch light in her eyes this creates a more emotional/lost atmosphere to the image. In these images i have made her face look paler and the river cop lighting has showed this. |

For this second shoot i have chosen to use pink as the main colour. Once again this photoshoot was done in the green room and i used various lighting styles to see which would work better or well with the style of makeup and theme i have picked.

For the makeup in this shoot we did not use any stencil or guidance, simply a brush and formed an oval shape around the models, following the images i had sketched out for my makeup ideas. For this i used bright pink eyeshadow which was layered up to create a more pigmented colour. Also highlighted areas on her face so that it would be defined by the lighting on camera.
This is my favourite photograph from the shoot. In this shoot my main colour is pink, this time i have decided to make a oval shape around her eyes with the eyeshadow, on the lips i have applied pink lipstick. I like this photo because the black background is bold but not distracting, which lets the model stand out, this is also formed by using river cop lighting. I used this lighting due to it making her outline of her face highlighted and defined. It brings out the make up colour. This image gives off a serious mood, it engages me in the models face - created by the lighting. This is a close up but not extreme, this way i have encountered the whole scene and further brought out the mood and feeling of this image. |
This is another photograph from my shoot that i like. I like this image because i framed the model differently, the model isn't directly facing the camera, to add on i have taken this as a close up. This is appealing and interesting for the viewer to look at. In this i have still used river cop lighting, the benefit of this is that the right side of her face has been defined/outlined and the side closer to the camera is the main focus, letting us see the pink more vividly as well as the features of her face. There is a good contrast between the black background and the left side of her face to be highlighted which i like a lot. The catch light in her eyes produces a touching atmosphere with a serious mood. |

'Record in visual and/or other forms ideas, observations, and insights relevant to intentions demonstrating an ability to reflect on work and progress'
This was a image from my first photoshoot, i have experimented with this image in photoshop to see what editing i can do. My aim for this was to enhance makeup colours. I did this by using the sponge tool and overlaying the eyelids and lips with a similar colour to match the makeup colour. This allowed the colours to be more vivid and the main focus of the photograph. Also i changed the brightness and contrast to make the image more visually appealing. |
Firstly adjusted the brightness and contrast, this generally helps the appearance of the photo to become more delightful. I used the blur tool to fade out the background and any other part of the model which was either distracting or unimportant as well as enabling a narrow depth of field. Thirdly i added another layer and then over her eye lids brushed on purple, then over-layed using soft light, allowing it to look like subtle eye shadow. Next i used the burn tool on 'shadows' and filled in her eyebrows with this, and used the sharpen tool on her eyelashes to make them look longer. I also used another layer to overlay purple onto her lips to create a more electric affect.
Firstly i changed the brightness/contrast
I particularly really like the outcome at of this experimentation. First i increased the brightness and contrast. Secondly i used spot healing and the smudge tool to clear blemishes and unwanted details. Also i used the sharpen tool to make her eyelashes more visible. As well as this i I added a another layer and used black paint to fill in her eyebrows then overlayed it soft light. Lastly i used the blur tool to blur the background so that there is a narrow depth of field and so the model is the only focus of the image. Furthermore on this layer i painted over her lip colour with the same colour and overlayed it with darken to create a more vivid affect. I added another layer to this and gave her a light brown eye colour and overlayed it with exclusion then used the sponge tool to enhance and increase to clarity and colour even more.
the first thing that was done for this photograph was turning up the brightness/contrast. i then used the filter on Gaussian blur and erased the blur of the face but not the hair or background. i then used the spot healing tool to remove any blemishes or spots that were on her face that day. Furthermore i used the sharpen tool on her eyelashes, and the sponge tool on here eyes. After this i added a layer and painted over her lips with the same colour purple and overplayed it with soft light - making them more vivid. I added another layer and chose a lighter purple colour and painted this over her eyelids, using the overlay soft light. Then i added a third layer, on this i painted over the eye whites in white and used soft light. The last thing i did was add a fourth layer and and used a hazel colour and painted over the eyes and then used the overlay soft light and turned the opacity down to 73%.
1. Firstly on this image i adjusted the brightness and contrast. Furthermore using the healing tool to remove any blemishes or spots. I then used the blur on the background which is showing in the corner of the image, then using the sharpen tool on the eyelashes.
2. After this i used the sponge tool on both her eyes and her lips to bring a more vibrant colour to them. I also used the dodge tool on her hair to make the red colour stand out, and i used the burn tool on her eyebrows - helping define them.
3.i then added an extra layer and painted over her lips with the same colour and changed the overlay to saturation, then turning down the opacity a little bit.

For this photoshoot i used natural lighting and took it in my garden against a brick wall. The second location on this shoot was at Osterley park and ere we used the greenery. i did this is two different locations as i will have variation of light and shots.

This is one of my favourite photo's from this shoot. For this picture i have taken it in a park, i have used a tree as a simple natural background. This is a close up which i like more than a midshot because this way i am able to seize the detail in face and emotions. I have used natural lighting - soft lighting, which i believe adds more emphasis on the makeup used. Furthermore The sun brings out her lipstick as well as eye colour - producing catch lights. I have asked my model to wear all black as it will help the makeup stand out leading to no distractions in the photograph so it doesn't look messy. Plus i will/may experiment with changing the colour of the top to match the lipstick. I'll do this on photoshop, as well as enhancing makeup colours for a bolder colour. This image has a mysterious atmosphere atmosphere. |
This is another photograph from my shoot. In this image my model is facing towards the sun, the main focus is still her lipstick and eyelashes. i like this because it isn't an extreme close up, it is a variation in camera shots - this allows us to see the hair style and colour and more of the setting. This photo is taken outside therefore i have used natural lighting. This is more flattering and glamorous than studio lighting and has let her eye colour be dazzling. The sunlight allows the makeup to be more prominent, and it also creates catch lights. This photograph has a mysterious and soft mood/feel to it, allowing the photograph to be more appealing and engaging - not boring. Furthermore the i have taken the photograph so that the model isn't positioned in the centre this way the image once again is more attractive. |

This is my favourite photograph from the brick wall setting. In this my model is posed in an over the shoulder shot, this adds more intensity and seriousness to the image as well as not being an ordinary centre positioned shot. As you can tell she is wearing bright orange lipstick and a black top, the black top allows the orange to stand out and doesn't take the focus away from her face. Also the lipstick colour helps compliment the mascara on her eye lashes. For this image i have used the rule of thirds. This makes the photograph more visibly appealing to people, allows it to look different and more attractive as a whole. Furthermore this has obviously been taken outside - using natural lighting promotes a overall lighting on the face and brings out the makeup and different vibes a image expresses. I feel this image has a serious/intense mood, the eyes especially are powerful. |
This is my second favourite photograph from the shoot, this photo was taken in Osterley park. i took this next to a tree and in front of a small building in the park, but the background is unnoticeable because it is a close up. Natural lighting was used, this let the makeup be seen as more prominent, as well as enhancing her eye colour slightly, and illuminating her hair colour. The natural light helps define and shape the face and create more depth/features. In this my model has tilted her head to the left slightly which allows the light to produce contrast between the two sides of her face. I believe the orange lipstick bravely stands out in this image which was my main goal. I feel a very intense atmosphere. Lastly the sun light emits the beauty style of the model. |
Photoshop 6
This photoshoot was taken in hounslow, i found a location with different textured and coloured metal used as a fence. I used this as the background for the shoot. The photoshoot was taken outside using natural lighting. The main colour theme for this photoshoot was purple so my model is wearing purple lipstick.
This is one of my most favourable images from this shoot. In this i chose a location where there was corrugated iron sheets used as fences. In this i asked my model to dress in all black again, not only will all my models be dressed the same but it will allow the lipstick to stand out more, also the natural lighting will do the same thing. As you can see in this photograph the lighting has specifically on hit the ace, this was unintentional but was noticed, therefore i captured this. I like this because it created amore intense mood and lets the image and viewer mainly focus on the face. To add on to this i will experiment in photoshop and enhance the lip colour on the model and adjust other parts on her face. along with this i may photoshop eyeshadow into this to match the lip colour. For the composition of this photo i took a various amount of photographs with the model in different positions, i like this one in particular because have the model facing towards the sun, this created an intense atmosphere but made the photo to be very engaging. |
This is another photograph from my shoot which i liked, this is a close up of her face, i prefer the close up in terms of detail more as it captures more emotion and colour within the photograph. Once again the sun light is hitting her face in a different way which adds a contrast in colour and creates a more attractive overall photo. The sun light has also allowed the models eyes to have catch lights. This has enabled a more sincere/friendly mood. In this image i have used a narrow depth of field to concentrate on the models face and makeup. Her lip colour has been captured with a shine on it which will encourage depth and when photoshopping/experimenting with this i can make the purple more vivid therefore more appealing to look at. Her facial expression and the colour black that she is wearing is all to add the the affect of intensity and glamorous for the model. |
